Jessica and Tyler tied the knot on a warm day in August of 2018. In fact, today they have been married for nine months! These two started by getting ready at a hotel in Overland Park, then we all went to The Westin at Crown Center for the couple’s first look and bridal party pictures. It was an amazing backdrop with the Kansas City skyline all around us. It was beautiful. After that, we went to Shawnee Town Museum where they had their ceremony and reception. They got married at just the perfect time as it started to sprinkle right as they were announced as man and wife! It was a magical moment. Here are some of Jessica’s thoughts on her big day:
What was the most memorable experience from your big day?
My most memorable experience was all of the time I got to spend with my closest friends and family. I'm not one to enjoy being the center of attention. It honestly gives me anxiety, but on our wedding day our bridal party made me feel so loved and important, but also so comfortable. It is the biggest thing that has stuck with me.
What is your most valuable piece of advice you can share with future couples planning their wedding?
Really pay attention to who you put in your bridal party. They are SO important. We were lucky that we had so many helpful people in our bridal party. Another piece of advice would be to make sure that you love your vendors. Kelsey and Nathan did so much to help Tyler and I. We can never repay the two of you. You both mean the world to us. (Thanks Jessica!)
Share how (or why) you chose your wedding venue(s).
We wanted to have an outdoor ceremony and in door reception. Old Shawnee Town allowed us to do that. Looking back on everything I wish we would have found a place that would let us decorate Friday, but we were still very happy about our decision. We also wanted to supply our own food and alcohol, so we had to cross out a few venues because they did not allow that.
What was your favorite part of the planning process?
My favorite part was getting to do it all with Tyler. A lot of people talk about how their fiance/husband did not care about the planning, but Tyler had an idea and opinion every step of the way from colors to the venue to bridal party attire. It could get frustrating at times, but looking back on it I'm so glad that we did everything together.
